This assignment is all about having some fun with photos.
This assignment is all about having some fun with photos.
- Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.
- A visual pun is a way of combining images to create a pun.
- For example, “Burger King” is created by combining a burger + crown + scepter = Burger King. When these combined images are viewed, the visual pun on the word becomes evident.

- Your task is to take an ordinary, every day term and make a visual of it... for example: house cat, ballpoint pen, hair ball, one tough cookie, sharp as a tack, hotter than 2 rats in a wool sock... Whatever you can think of.
- First simply brainstorm for ideas. You can use a word or commonly known phrase such a “couch potato” or “ear for music”.
- For this assignment you’ll use Photoshop to create a minimum of three visual puns
- For each visual pun:
- Combine at least 2 photographs using the selection methods we’ve covered in class.
- Add a simple background that does not distract from the image.
- Minimum image size: 5 x 5 inches @ 150 ppi (pixels per inch) for all three files.
- Criteria for grading:
- The chosen pun is clearly communicated by combining photographs
- The pun is created by combining unrelated photographs
- The image catches the readers attention and uses the Photoshop techniques that we learned in class
Multiplicity / "Multiple Me"

Important Tips 1. Shoot with the camera horizontal (landscape) 2. USE A TRIPOD or a stable base 3. Control EVERYTHING in MANUAL (Exposure Triangle/WB/Focus) 4. Don’t move the camera and keep zoom the same btw. photos 5. Keep the background simple with NO moving objects. 6. Shoot one “empty scene” with nobody in it
