Photoshop Assignment: Visual Dictionary
- You have probably heard the phrase: "A picture is worth 1000 words"
- For this assignment, I’m asking for ONE word to be represented by a combination of pictures. Your task is to use Photoshop to create two pages for a visual dictionary. You’ll use type and images to illustrate two words from the dictionary.
- Begin by selecting a word from the dictionary. It must be appropriate for school. If you have to ask, it’s probably not appropriate, so go find another word. Use a thesaurus or dictionary to find interesting words.
- You are going to submit 2 different composites, using 2 different words.
- For each image:
- Your starting file should be a minimum of 8" X 6" @ 150 ppi (pixels per inch)
- You must combine at least 3-4 photographs using various selection methods, filters, blending methods, backgrounds and text.
- The written definition must be included in the image and be legible.
- Tip: Use the eyedropper to sample a color from the photos to use for the type color.
- You will be evaluated in terms of your creativity, your design, and the quality of your selections
- You will also be assessed in terms of the difficulty of your isolations (white background vs. complex and detailed)
- Each isolated image must be done as a mask layer so that the mask can easily be turned on and off
- When you post your work online you must show the completed image, but also the component images that were used to create the work.
- Your psd files must be linked within Weebly.
- If the files are > 10 or 15 MB, you may need to upload them in dropbox or onedrive and then provide a shared link.
