Photoshop Assignments - Visual Pun
This assignment is all about having some fun with photos.
- Pun: a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.
- A visual pun is a way of combining images to create a pun.
- For example, “Burger King” is created by combining a burger + crown + scepter = Burger King.
- When these combined images are viewed, the visual pun on the word becomes evident.
- For example, “Burger King” is created by combining a burger + crown + scepter = Burger King.
- Your task is to take an ordinary, every day term and make a visual of it... for example: house cat, ballpoint pen, hair ball, one tough cookie, sharp as a tack, hotter than 2 rats in a wool sock... Whatever you can think of.
- First simply brainstorm for ideas. You can use a word or commonly known phrase such a “couch potato” or “ear for music”.
- Before you get started, do some research on visual puns and try to find several puns or ideas that spark your interest. You may even want to post your examples on your weebly site.
- For this assignment you’ll use Photoshop to create a minimum of three visual puns
- For each visual pun:
- Combine at least 2 photographs using the selection methods we’ve covered in class.
- Add a simple background that does not distract from the image.
- Minimum image size: 5 x 5 inches @ 150 ppi (pixels per inch) for all three files.
- Criteria for grading:
- The chosen pun is clearly communicated by combining photographs
- The pun is created by combining unrelated photographs
- The image catches the readers attention and uses the Photoshop techniques that we learned in class
